Welcome!
I’m Drew Topor, the artist behind Topor Studios.
Words have never been my strong suit. For years I’ve struggled to write an artist statement and, to be honest, I’ve avoided it. I was so intimidated by the statements made by artists I’ve admired; how they spoke so eloquently about their work and created such depth with their words. My inability to put words to my paintings made me question whether my art even meant anything. My body of work has such a wide range of subjects and styles that it’s hard to define who I am—or what I want to say as an artist.
But maybe that’s okay?
I paint for others. There is no better feeling than when my art makes someone happy. When I give someone a painting that has a special meaning to them, there’s that first moment of recognition—of memory. That moment is why I paint.
I’ve come to accept that maybe I’ll never be able to truly refine my voice as an artist. My style may vary and my subject matter may be unpredictable, but my art has never really been about what I want to say. To me, painting is just simply about bringing a feeling to others.
